The city of Córdoba is situated in Andalusia in Southern Spain and is the capital of Córdoba province. This city was an Iberian and Roman city in ancient times; in the middle ages, it was an Islamic Caliphate capital. The population of this city in 2008 was about 326000.
The city was discovered by the Romans; it is strategically located for navigation through the river Guadalquivir and hence it became a popular port for transporting olive oil, wheat and wine to primeval Rome. The bridge across the river Guadalquivir was built by the Romans. The Mosque – Mezquita was built by Moors and this is the largest mosque in Islam.
