Chamorga- (Tenerife)

By alston corwin at 2010-06-03 00:40:55
The village Chamorga is situated in Tenerife Island which is a part of the Canary Islands. The road leading to Chamorga is on the northern side of the Anaga Mountains and winds through forests of Erica, Broom and Laurel from El Bailladero along the TF123. The road is not only twisting but also misty. You will encounter some fantastic views while traveling on this road.

You will find that Chamorga is a small collection of houses spread across the valley wherein there are a large number palms; the valley is dotted with neat and productive terraces. You might find that the village is in a remote place; however it is easily accessible from Santa Cruz. Some of the best walks in this region start from this village.

Chamorga is located at about 1800 feet and its population is only a few hundreds. People traveling by car cannot travel further by car once they reach Chamorga. Persons wanting to travel further must park the car at the starting point of the village between the chapel and the tavern in the village and proceed by walk.

Chamorga is a unique tiny village situated in the middle of the mountains. You will find a large number of paths from this village for hiking as well as taking a walk.

The path leading to a smaller village – Roque Bermejo takes a minimum of 3 hours by walk and the distance is about 7 KM. Roque Bermijo contains a small cluster of houses. You can return back to Chamorga by taking a ridge walk starting from the lighthouse Faro de Anaga. You can also see the remote beach here.

While walking on the ridge, you will encounter some fantastic views over the northern rugged coastline. If you are keen to walk a longer distance – 14 KM, 5 hours – you could start walking in the western direction from Chamorga that leads you to El Draguillo; at this point you turn east and walk along the little-used coastal path that leads to Faro de Anaga.

You will find a place worth seeing by walking on the path that leads into a forest of kite trees or forest elder. This area is famous for the varieties of flora and fauna. The other popular places for walk are – Montana Tafada, Lookout point Cabezo del Tejo and Las Casillas.
