Conil de la Frontera is situated on the Costa de la Luz in the province Cadiz (Spain) in Andalusia; this village on the seaside is quite picturesque. You will find that this village is typically Spanish with white walls and streets. The distance from Cadiz to this place is about 25 miles. The population in this village is about 18000.

This town is hardly 12 KM from the Spanish hilltop town – Vejer de la Frontera and is a popular tourist resort. Once upon a time this was a poor fishing village; however nowadays it is quite modern although some old buildings still remain. In mid-season the nightlife in this place is quite lively.

History

The origin of the town Conil de la Frontera dates back to the Phoenicians who were looking for exploiting a new way of tuna fishing. Many tribes and nationalities – Carthaginians, Visigoths, Moslems, Romans, Byzantines, Vandals and Christians have ruled Conil sometime or other. .

The maximum and minimum average temperatures in this city are 26 °C in August and 12 °C in January. This village gets 3200 hours of sunshine in a year.

The coastline of this town is about 16 KM and there are more than 350 bars, cafes and restaurants in this place. Seafood is highly popular in this place and the most popular is the ortiguillas that is deep-fried sea anemones.

Sports and Entertainment

Sports activities that are popular in Conil are sailing, horse riding, fishing, cycling, trekking. In addition there are other sports activities such as surfing, scuba diving and wind and kite surfing.
The small town Tarifa is near Conil and you can sail in the sea with the scientists either to discover new species in the Gibraltar strait or to see the whales.

The seawater along the Costa de la Luz coastline is crystal clear and there is fine white sand for a distance of 14 KM. The clean blue waters are ideal for snorkeling and swimming.
There are a number of beautiful beaches in this area and popular among them are - La Fontanilla, Los Bateles, El Roqueo, Castilnovo, Roche, etc.

The nightlife attraction – Las Carpas or the tents takes place in the summer. This is a large entertainment complex on the beach wherein entertainments such as salsa, dance bands, flamenco shows, etc. are hosted for all ages and these are done free of cost.
