Madrid is a cosmopolitan city that has something to satisfy the needs of everyone. It has great museums that house paintings by the masters, great churches where you can look in wonder at the monuments created by man, bullfights, football and great food.

Football
The Santiago Bernabeu Football Stadium is the biggest in Spain with a seating capacity of 125000 people. If you are lucky enough to get a ticket to watch a game between the two rival Spanish teams Real Madrid and Barcelona, you would be able to witness football at its greatest. Every pass and every sally is cheered by thousands of fans while the scoring of a goal is celebrated not only in Spain, but by fans in America and elsewhere.

Bullfights
Madrid is also home to Las Ventas, the biggest bullring in Spain with a capacity of 23000 fans. To participate in one of the fights in Las Ventas is the goal of every bullfighter. The season starts in March and continues until late October. You can also visit the Museo Taurino or Bullfighting Museum where there is an exhibit of the costumes worn by bullfighters throughout the centuries.


Art
In Madrid one can find some of the best paintings by the masters. Works by Goya and Velasquez can be found in the Prado Museum and elsewhere. Some of the best works by Bruegel and Titian can be seen in the Convent of the Descalzas Reales while those of Spanish and other masters can be seen in the Palacio de Lira, the home of the Dukes of Alba. The Queen Sofia National Art Center houses works by 20th century masters and is home to Picasso's Guernica, returned from New York when democracy returned to Spain.

Food
Spanish cuisine is famous the world over. Who has not heard of the paella, that delicious mixture of seafood, vegetables and rice brought steaming hot to the table? You can also have a taste of other dishes such as the gazpacho, a multicolored salad sprinkled with olive oil that is a treat for any vegetarian.

Spring and fall are the best times to visit Madrid. The weather is warm with an average temperature of between 41 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The hottest months are July and August while the rainiest is October. The best time to visit Madrid is in Spring and Fall.
